Babies have this habit of un-eating some of what they eat. In other words, they spit up. Sometimes a lot.
And what do they do? With spitup all over their mouth and dripping onto their PJ’s, they look up at us and just smile. Seemingly, they’re unaware and unbothered by the fact that they’ve got a glaring problem needing to be addressed.
As we look down at their smiling face, we reach for a burp rag to clean the mess off. But wouldn’t it be silly if they thought we could only love them once the spitup was gone?
And wouldn’t it be silly of us to expect them to clean it up all on their own?
Of course!
Now we’re not going to leave it there, but we love them spitup or no spitup. And we know they need our help – that’s what we’re here for!
It may be a silly illustration, but I see a similarity between an incident like that and how I sometimes see my position with God. Sometimes I feel as though if my life has the slightest “mess” then I’m I’m not on God’s “good side.” (As if He has any other side? And as if He loves me because of anything I’ve done anyway??)
All the while, He’s in heaven not loving me any less! And on top of that He wants to help me through whatever “mess” I’ve created because He knows that I am but dust.
Friend, don’t fall into the same trap. It’s not enough to Satan that we’re mess-makers. He wants us to feel alone and overwhelmed. Without hope.
Because let’s be real, if it were up to us to live a perfect, mess-free life we would be without hope.
And if we were to live WITH hope, believing that our identity is in Christ, not in our failures, well…we might just make a difference in this world.

So often we live under that burden of guilt when Christ’s already died to take that away! Thank you Miriam! 💗

Love that analogy, Savannah. I love the fact that I can depend on the love of God in spite of anything I have and can ever do. His love for me never depends on me

Absolutely! Because we surely would be hopeless if it all depended on us! 💗 thank you!

I liked your analogy. It made me think of a verse in Psalms that talks about God remembering we are just dust, not an excuse to sin but an encouragement that He understands our weaknesses.

Yes! Isnt that encouraging! He knows we are weak and He is there to bear us up! Thank you! 💗

Amen, Savannah! Cute little analogy to remind us that God loves us no matter what ‘mess’ we’ve got ourselves into and nothing we do, or don’t do, will change that ❤️. Love it!

I wish I could bring this hope to a dear friend who feels so alone and depressed. I have prayed for months, interacted with her for months, yet she rejects my encouragement. Please pray that the grip of Satan on her life would be released and that God would fill her with hope that we have in the Lord Jesus Christ. Even in my discouragement, I remain hopeful and faithful to God!

What a great illustration! A Burp rag! 🙂 If God still loves us and cleans us up, even with our mistakes and sometimes frustrating personality, why can’t so called Christians do the same? Shouldn’t that be the test of a true one? I think so and sadly many harden their hearts, attacking even more . Great wisdom here, ❤

Enjoyed this. Recently I’ve been learning to turn my messes into messages and even posted about it on our blog. It’s the messy parts of life that really create the biggest growth in us. 😊👌
