Little Lessons | Waiting

Waiting…isn’t that just one of the hardest things? To simply wait, unable to act, unable to control, unable to fix the problem.

Wait.

There’s fear. There’s helplessness. There’s wondering and worrying. Scenarios cross your mind of what might happen. Anxiety grips your heart as you wonder how you will move forward from here.

I’ll admit – it is one of the hardest things for me. I think it is because I like to control…not control for need of power, but control out of the will to make sure everything is ok. Those I love are safe. Those close to me won’t hurt me. My little world will remain consistent and calm.

And then, when some terrible, scary situation threatens that peace and calm…I search for a way to control even that. But sometimes, there is nothing I can do.

Nothing, that is, but wait.

Lay my troubles at the feet of God.

Pour out my fear and hurt to the One Who knows me best.

And, perhaps the hardest part, walking away. Not away from God, but away from where I’ve laid my burden down. Trusting Him to work the situation for my good and for His glory. Allowing Him to calm my soul when it threatens to rupture in unrest.

Psalm 3

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

Hard things come. It’s simply a result of this broken, sin-cursed world. But we have a Father who understands our hurt. He knows we are but dust, and that we can sometimes be weak.

He loves us. You. Me. And He is near those who are brokenhearted.

I don’t know what you are facing today. If you are in a period of waiting as I am. If you, too, feel so very lost and unsure. But if you are, trust this:

There is an end. The waiting is not forever. The sun will break through, someday. It may not be today, and it may not be tomorrow. But one day, you will stand with your face algow in the warmth of the sun, and you will realize that the valley is finally behind you.

Keep your eyes on the Son. Don’t give up.

You are not alone.

  1. He holds you while you wait, he understands our human heart and mind and he ne er leaves us to face the unknown alone. It is only unknown to us, he is guiding everything the seen and the unseen.
    Well said!

  2. He loves to sit with us as we wait. Sometimes we wait and wait until we know He’s there and we can lean on Him, cast our cares on Him. I’m guessing this is in connection with last night’s prayer request – ? Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to see how the blessing unfolds. Praying…

    1. It sure is Kathy! As I had to just sit and wait, I decided to write and I found it soothing my heart as I thought on and wrote on that hard thing. And prayers were certainly answered – so far the situation has unfolded about as well as could be hoped for! Thank you 💗

  4. I am thinking of the people in Harm’s Way in the Florida path of the hurricane. How hard to keep your eyes on the Son and trust that He has your back at this juncture. But, your advice is sound, “The sun will break through, someday. It may not be today, and it may not be tomorrow. But one day, you will stand with your face algow in the warmth of the sun…” I pray their homes are there to greet them at that point too, and if not, a loving friend or relative. ❤

    1. Hey Gracie, I know this is soooo late a response, but hopefully you’ve been able go hang on and maintain your peace in your period of waiting. Hugs! ❤ if God is in it, it definitely is worth it!

  5. Oh I’m so poor at ‘waiting.’ Thank you for this great reminder: “There is an end. The waiting is not forever. The sun will break through, someday. It may not be today, and it may not be tomorrow. But one day, you will stand with your face algow in the warmth of the sun, and you will realize that the valley is finally behind you.”
